Antimicrobial susceptibility of S.pneumoniae, H.influenzae, S.pyogenes and S.aureus during 2000-2002 years Irena Narkeviciute, Genovaite Bernatontiene
The article presents data about susceptibility of S.pneumoniae, H.influenzae, S.pyogenes, S.aureus species to antimicrobial agents in 2000-2002. In Microbiological laboratory of Vilnius University Children's Hospital in three years period 2676 cultures taken from hospitalized children were examined using disc diffusion method, according to NCCLS criteria. Most of tested antimicrobial agents were effective against above mentioned bacteria, except erythromycine, which has shown only slight activity against H.influenzae. In 2002 year, 8.6 perc. of S.pneumoniae isolates were resistant to penicillin. The susceptibility of H.influenzae to ampicillin during 2000-2002 years period was 83-87 perc. Penicillin and first generation cephalosporins demonstrated 100 perc. activity against S.pyogenes. The incidence of S.aureus resistance to methicillin was 1.9 perc. in 2002. H.influenzae and S.pneumoniae species were sensitive to new macrolids and might be used, especially in out-patient settings, for the treatment of non only atypical, but also mixt typical - atypical and unknown infections of lower respiratory tract.
