Evaluation of the respiratory system in children with syncope

Syncope was defined as transient loss of consciousness associated with loss of postural tone, occurring in standing or sitting position and followed by rapid spontaneous on assuming the supine position. Syncope is the result of transient brain hypoperfusion. Status like syncope may occur with metabolic disorders, intoxication, epilepsy, psichogenic disorders. Vasovagal syncope was diagnosed to 128 pediatric patients in Vilnius town university hospital 1999-2002. 38 of them had respiratory tract disease too. 38 of all 128 patient were examined directly after syncope in hospital. There was no patient with capillary blood alkalosis or acidosis. 4 of them had hypocapnia, 21 - decreased CO2 less then 95%. The lowest saturation was established 90.2%.
