THE PECULIARITIES OF TUBERCULOSIS IN CHILDREN OF KAUNAS REGION OF LITHUANIA Algirdas Andriuska, Dalia Steponaviciene Kaunas 2nd Clinical Hospital, Kaunas, Lithuania
Tuberculosis is one of the most common infectious diseases worldwide. Data from WHO show that one third of the world population is estimated to be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis remains an important problem in Lithuania, because the number of new diagnosed cases in children vary between 16,0–21,9 per 100 000 children population. The aim of this article is to discuss clinical and radiological peculiarities of tuberculosis in children based on our experience working in Dept of Pulmonology of Kaunas regional hospital. The diagnosis of tuberculosis in children more often was confirmed radiologicaly (92% of cases) and epidemiologicaly (45%), rather than bacteriologicaly (4,8%) or histologicaly (3,2%). Three clinical cases of children with different forms of tuberculosis are discussed in this article.
